If you love vintage clothing and frequently wear it outside of work, but don’t know how to put it into your day to day, here are three quick tips to get you started:

  1. Keep it simple. Some vintage fabrics and styles are quite out there, so sticking to solid colours and clean lines allow you to have a vintage essence while still remaining professional for the workplace.
  2. Keep it modest. Many vintage styles are very well cut and fit close to the body, but the same guidelines apply to vintage workwear as to modern dress. Showing less skin at the office is generally considered more professional (Mad Men, Suits and other TV fashion aside)
  3. Go for a new version. What you choose doesn’t have to be actual vintage, but can instead draw from vintage inspiration. Many sites such as PinUp Girl Clothing have lovely retro styles recreated in modern easy fabric.

In addition, remember that you can use your accessories to add a bit of retro as well. Either old vintage jewellery, bags, scarves or shoes or new versions of the same, such as the beautiful jewelry made right here in Vancouver by our own Elsa Corsi! Have fun and get a little time-warped today.
